Sahastradhara will get a helidrome next season, where passengers can experience the facilities like international airport . A proposal is being prepared to operate helicopter service from Sahastradhara to Kedarnath and Badrinath, to decrease the rush of passengers during the yatra season from the next yatra season.
According to Dilip Jawalkar, secretary of civil aviation, a helidrome is being constructed at Sahastradhara. By next year, UCADA will have the helidrome ready for the travel season. There will be many amenities at the airport for passengers. There is an increasing demand for heli services to Kedarnath Dham from Sirsi, Guptkashi, Phata. Therefore, a proposal to provide heli services from Sahastradhara to Kedarnath, Badrinath from next year is being prepared.
The proposal will be sent to the government through UCADA. For operating the heli service, an offer will be given to the aviation company on behalf of Ukada. After getting permission from DGCA, passengers from Dehradun will also get the benefit of direct heli service. Municipal corporation land will be acquired for Sahastradhara helipad expansion on behalf of UCADA. For this, Rs 13 crore will be paid to the Municipal Corporation in lieu of the land.
