Uttarakhand Govt’s plans to run ‘Pod Taxi’ in Haridwar

Plans of running Pod Taxi in Haridwar
The plan of running the Pod Taxi service in the holy town of Haridwar is in its last leg. On the proposal of Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation, the housing department will be proposing the proposal of running pod taxi services in Haridwar in the cabinet.
Preparation by the state government
As stated by several media reports, the Uttarakhand government is preparing to run pod taxi services which will connect the major temples in Haridwar. This proposal will be placed in the cabinet after getting clearance from various concerned departments of the state government.
Length of the pod taxi route
As per study and research by the Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation, the length of the track of the pod taxis will be 21 kilometers. This track will run from Jwalapur to Bharat Mata Mandir Bhupatwala. A total of 20 taxis will be put on service which will run on elevated steel tracks. As per the plan, 20 stations will be built where these taxis will halt.
Estimated budget for the pod taxi services
The estimated budget for this entire project will be 1650 crores INR. In this budget, the complete 21 kilometers route of the pod taxi services will be built. As per an official, this project will be built in PPP (Private-Public Partnership) mode. Many companies have shown their interest in this pod taxi project.
What is a pod taxi?
A pod taxi is basically a driverless car that can accommodate four to six people and it runs on a steel track. This mode of transport is quite common in western countries. This concept is being introduced in Haridwar where each pod will have a capacity to accommodate a maximum of six people.
