Independence Day Parade Delhi India :  In just a few days’ time, the streets of New Delhi will be filled with colorful joyous celebrations all around on the occasion of 75th Independence Day in the country. People will be seen with tri-color flags and merchandise and commemorating the significant memoirs which will be aired on almost every TV channel. All the State capitals will also be celebrating the Independence Day with special Independence Day Parade and regional activities taking place. While, the preparations for the event has already started in Delhi and other parts of the country, but the most important parade happened in Delhi for cultural and historical reasons as well.

All the important roads and streets are being dusted and cleaned for the special ceremony. The landmark buildings and monuments in Delhi are also decorated with lights and unique decorations, especially Red Fort where this ceremony essentially takes place. In the days leading up to the event, the security details are also setup for the maximum protection of citizens and the high-ranking delegates who take part in the Independence Day parade.

Independence Day 2022 Theme

This year, the cultural government of India has given the Independence Day 2022 theme of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav as the theme of Independence Day celebrations. Taking forward, the main aspect of Independence Day, all monuments protected under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) are open for the public from August 5th till Independence Day.  Since, the tri-colour flag is of utmost importance, this year it has been essentially said to bring the flag home with the tagline- Har Ghar Tiranga.

Going by the lines of bringing flag to every home, Ministry of Culture has issued a video stating the Har Ghar Tiranga anthem. ISRO will also partake in the celebrations in a unique say where they will be launching 75 payloads into the space created by 750 girl students from around India. The payloads are known as AzadiSAT launching on August 7th. Reliance Jio will also contribute to the 75th Independence Day celebrations by launching 5G services with a pan-India 5G rollout marking ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

How to Reach Independence Day Parade Delhi?

New Delhi is the capital if the country and anyone from any part of the country can reach via any form of public transport. Red Fort where the celebrations will take place is at the center of the city and you can reach there via cab, metro or bus. It is recommended that to watch the parade, the public should be present at the venue by 5am so that they get the best seats to watch the parade.

According to the Delhi Police advisory, roads around Red Fort will be closed for general public on Independence Day from 4am to 10pm. The roads will be open for exempted vehicles on the day according to the advisory.

Buses are also diverted from the Red Fort area from Old Delhi Railway Station, Red Fort, Bhai Mati Dass Chowk, Mori Gate, ISBT, Pragati Maidan and Ambedkar Stadium Terminal shall terminate opposite Turkman Gate Asaf Ali Road. The advisory states that buses enroute for Kauria Pul or Red Fort or the Old Delhi railway station will operate via the ISBT bridge (Yudhistir Setu) and terminate at Boulevard Road near the Mori Gate U-turn.

Accordingly, tourists can plan their visit via Metro or bus and navigate their way into Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort.

Independence Day Delhi Road Closure

Since, the security is considered of utmost priority on Independence Day Parade , public should be aware about the road closures and traffic stops all around New Delhi, especially the area around Red Fort. Delhi Traffic Police would be updating the public about the traffic diversions around Red Fort via their social media and radio stations, so people should be vigilant about that.

Eight roads will be closed- Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and its link road to Netaji Subhash Marg, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover.

Independence Day Parade Tickets online Booking 2022

The tickets will go on sale two days before the Independence Day Parade from 10am to 12pm on the official website- www.mod.gov.in

The Ministry of Defense launched the tickets at varied prices starting from ₹20 and goes up to ₹500 .  The documents required for ticket booking are as follows:

  • PAN Card Copy
  • Voter ID Card
  • Passport of the Applicant
  • Driving License Copy

There are a lot of centers created for the ticket purchase around Delhi for Independence Day Parade . People can also look for online ticket booking for VIP passes of reserving their seats. Ticket counters are set around North Block roundabout, South Block roundabout, Pragati Maidan, Jantar Mantar, Shastri Bhawan, Red Fort, India Gate, Parliament House Reception Office, DTDC, and Janpath.

The best way to commute to Red Fort is via Metro. Metro Stations will be on schedule according to DMRC guidelines. The nearest metro station to Red Fort are the Chandni Chowk (2.2km) and Lal Quila (1km) metro station. The public can take up the Violet line for Lal Quila metro station or Yellow Line for Chandni Chowk metro station.
