Char Dham Yatra 2025 Complete Guide
The Significance of Char Dham Yatra
According to religious beliefs, Badrinath Dham is also regarded as the eighth Vaikuntha (divine abode of Lord Vishnu), where Lord Vishnu is believed to rest for six months. Similarly, at Kedarnath Dham, Lord Shiva is said to reside in deep meditation. Kedarnath is flanked by two mountains, known as Nar and Narayan, which are considered incarnations of Lord Vishnu. It is also believed that pilgrims should visit Kedarnath first and then Badrinath to attain the full spiritual benefits of the pilgrimage.
The scriptures state that embarking on the Char Dham Yatra liberates a person from the cycle of birth and death. There is an old saying that anyone who visits Badrinath even once will never have to return to the womb (rebirth). The Shiva Purana mentions that those who worship the Kedarnath Jyotirlinga and drink its holy water are freed from the cycle of reincarnation.
Additionally, traveling to these four sacred sites allows pilgrims to experience diverse languages, cultures, histories, and traditions across different regions of India, enhancing their spiritual and cultural knowledge. While most people undertake this pilgrimage in their old age, those who complete it in their youth are believed to attain supreme wisdom.
During the pilgrimage, devotees mostly travel on foot, which boosts physical endurance and vitality. Walking long distances is also believed to increase longevity. Therefore, the scriptures affirm that those who undertake the Char Dham Yatra receive blessings of good health and a long life, remaining free from various physical ailments throughout their lifetime.
