Onam 2022 Preparations to start from Atham 30th August . Onam is harvest festival celebrated in kerala celebrating the return of King Mahabali from patala.it is believed that mahabali was the great grandson of prahalad , who conquered all the three worlds. once the king mahabali conquered all the three worlds. then all the gods approached to lord vishnu to help defeat the king , listening to there pleas lord vishnu took the vamana avatar .
The brahimin approached the yagna and was warmly welcomed by the king mahabali and asked for vamana wishesh. vamana wished thee steps of lands as soon as king mahabali agreed the vamana grew enormously and with first two steps covered all the earth and heaven and for the third steps king offered his head. pleased with mahabali devotion lord vishnu blessed that the king would be able to visit his kingdom every year which is celebrated as onam.

Atham
Atham is the first day of Onam celebration in Onam 2022 Atham is on 30 August people of kerala start making the pookalam from the atham . Pookalam or ahtapoo is the floral mat laid in the front courtyad of the house made by the maidens to welcome the king mahabali.
Chithira
Chithira is the second day of onam celebration in Onam 2022 Chithira is on 31 August on this day maidens of house add new flowers to Pookalam which they started on the day of Atham.
Chothi
Chothi is the third day of onam celebration in Onam 2022 Chothi is on 1st September on this day people do shopping’s and buy new clothes and other things for the grand celebration of onam.
Vishakam
Vishakam is the fourth day of onam celebration in Onam 2022 vishkam is on 2nd September from this day women starts the preparation of the meal of onasadya on thiruvonam. women start the preparing the side dishes like pickle , pappad and many other things start from that day.
Anizham

Thiruvonam
Thiruvonam 2022 date is 8th september this is the 10th day of onam celebration. Thiruvonam is made up of two words – Thiru and Onam. Thiru means holy. It is believed that every year on this day King Mahabali comes to kerala and bless the people. It is also In Kerala, there is a four-day holiday for this festival which starts one day before the day of Thiruvonam and ends two days after that.
On the day of Thiruvonam people take early morning baths and go to the neighborhood temple to pray. Everyone becomes committed to celebrating the festival in their own manner like women on the house give final shape to Pookkallam which they started from atham the first day of onam.
On the day of Thiruvonam 26 types of dishes are made, which are served on banana leaves. During Onam, folk dance of Kerala Thiruvatirakali, kummattikali, kathakali, puli kali etc. are special events of kerala can be seen on that day.
